Noboribetsu

Jigokudani translates to "Hell valley", and is used across many locations in Japan. This one, in Noboribetsu, Hokkaido, is perhaps the most spectacular. The undulating terrain draped in sulphur (yellow brown) and iron (red) oxides, the steam vents, the lush, green hills covered by the mist - quite the visual. But it's more than just the visual, the pungent, humid air and the sounds of steam furiously venting make for a thoroughly unique experience.
